Bilstein PSS10 linear spring conversion?

Have been thinking of modifying a set of PSS10 for the R56. These are not the same as the PSS9 for the R53:

Both front and rear springs are progressive and the internal diameter of the lower part of the spring is 60 mm. From other threads I gather the PSS9 is 2.5 inch ID, and the rears are linear.

Front would be easy: Vorshlag plates with a 60 mm hat and a 60 mm ID linear Hyperco Spring, probably in the 6 inch length.

Rear is problematic, as it uses the 85 mm ID (stock diameter) at the top of the spring, which mates to the 85 mm stock top hat....

What would be the work around for the rear springs?? Not sure it is possible without a 60 mm hat? Is there some type of rear top hat conversion kit out there?

PSS10 front and rear pics below, along with PSS9 example:

Check and see what the KW kits with linear rear springs use, as those don't come with aftermarket top mounts.

Looks like they use custom 60 mm top hats, scroll to last page:

Probably could work? But the guinea pig factor gets larger, might have to just wait 3-5 months for some AST's

I guess when push comes to shove, one of my driving factors in selecting a coilover is the inverted shock with the adjuster on the bottom.
Sounds stupid, but after years of track, autocross and dealing with Koni's, TC Kline double adjustables, etc. (all great systems by the way), simplicity wins the day.

Now that I am not competing to any major degree these days, I can live with single adjustment systems as long as they are quality and easy to adjust.

The coilovers on my list that will fit that bill are the Bilsteins, AST 5100, and most likely new Ohlins that have been released for the MINI.

Trying to make the Bilsteins work because they are the best priced of the bunch if you can believe it. Also, they seem to be be somewhat bullet proof from the reviews I have read, and they are available NOW, unlike other more expensive systems that take forever to get on special order! If it wasn't for them darn progressive springs it would be a slam dunk...oh well, will figure it out soon, got track days in Jan,Feb, Mar, etc., don't get that pesky snow here.

If you order Vorshlag plates from Vorshlag I'll bet they have a regular style 60mm perch that would work in the back.

Just an update on this. We have designed our own custom rear upper perches, complete with spherical bearing upper mounts.

Do you have a pic of the rear upper perch. I have the Vorshlag one for the AST and would like to compare them.

I only have prototype photos, they are still not finished.

The Vorshlag upper mounts aren't compatible with anything else as far as I'm aware. You will be able to use these on stock shocks and springs, and we'll have one for 60mm ID springs

Hey guys I'm a noob compared to you guys when it comes to understanding these coilovers.
I bought a set of used Pss10s w Vorshlag camber plates and my 2010 JCW w 24mm sway bar in the front seems to bounce around like crazy.
Soo much so that I got sea sick on the highway.
I previously had JCW sport suspension on the car.
I had them at 5 on all corners and it was unbearable, so I dialed it up to 8 it doesn't bounce on the highway now but they still bounce when braking hard.
Any help w this would be appreciated!
maybe I need bigger sway bars???
Bad installation?

Don't worry about swaybars.

What is your ride height like?

1 -1,5 inches lower.
I'm wonderiong could the problem be that the previous owner got the wrong perch w his vorshlag camber plates?

Swaybars definitely aren't going to help. What do you mean by "bounce"? If you mean that it's just a rough ride then yeah. It's probably just going to be that way. Running the stock PSS10 spring rates?

What I mean with bounce is that the car is constantly bobbing up and down on the highway when you hit 70 km/h
From what I know there is no way to change the spring rate, unless you raise or drop the car.

Did you install it yourself per the instuctions? How many miles on them? Did the guy you bought them from have the same issues? You changed your front end links to the ones that came with pss10s?

Mine are at maximum height and at 1 setting I barely feel any bouncing anymore.

I did not install myself, I paid a shop that had it's mechanic.
The previous owner had no issues.
10,000 miles
I don't trust the quality of the install based on what your saying.
I'll get it taken apart and reinstalled.
Yes end links changed.

I doubt the install has anything to do with what you're feeling but if it'll make you feel better then definitely get another opinion.

The PSS10s are progressive springs so I could see progressive springs paired with not enough rebound damping causing what you're talking about

What setting do you have them on? Also, measure the distance of spring plate height and see if it is within spec. I think mine is set to maximum per instructions - 230mm front and 185mm rear. I think you just have to play with them a little to find the best setting. Try changing to higher setting up front and lower in rear and see if it helps.
