I recently installed Pilo's rear strut brace and have been quite surprised by the change.

My son put a rear brace in his Civic hatchback that had a huge effect on handling, but I was not expecting much in the MINI, as the unibody is supposed to be quite stiff by itself.

Understeer is just about gone. The car seems to just pivot aroung the CG. Very little steering input is required after initial turn-in.

I also have a 21mm adjustable rear bar on the sofest setting which took out some understeer, but the strut brace has a much graeter effect than the bar.

My MINI motoring grin just got wider.

Anyone else tried the rear brace yet?

Thanks for your review - I'm fascinated at your findings. I'll certainly have to get one of these now and check it out.

Cheers!

Has any changes been done to the bar since it was first shown on this site? It seemed alot of well informed people had doubts about the bars possible effectivenes because it lacked any triangalation?

I love the idea and was awaiting some unbiased testing.

don't know if the brace has changed at all, but it is not triangulated. I haven't ever seen a triangulated rear brace - just in front, & only on other makes.

it does have a turnbuckle adjustment - I assummed this is just to allow easier fitting.

the bar attaches with 2 easily accessible allen head bolts to brackets that replace the rear seatback latch rings, thus allowing easy removal if cargo space is required.

this feature is what sold me on trying Pilo's brace, as my son's brace (& the required adolescent subwoofer) make the cargo space in his Civic just about unusable.

the new brackets move the seatbacks a couple of degrees more vertical, but I don't think it's enough to make much difference, unless you spend a lot of time in the rear seats - then you might notice.

it will only be a 30 second task to disconnect one side & allow other MCS drivers to try before & after spin to make their own judgements.
