You have to drop the rear subframe. It should take around two hours and less if you have a lift.

And even less if they have done it before. Perhaps you can check with your local Mini club to see where others have brought their cars to.

It cost me around $150 to have mine installed at my local tire place. They had a book time of about 3 hours for it. I had them on the phone before it was on the lift, I was in the shop 70m later and it was done and parked, so I know it only took them an hour.. they charged me for 90 minutes. Split the difference I guess.

Do it yourself man. Its cheaper, more rewarding and gives you a chance to get to know how things work. Dont be scared.

The quote I got wasn't a dealer.
He was recommended by fellow nam'ers.
After I talked to him for abit and told him others shops are charging about 3-3.5 hrs,he then says Oh we can work something out.
I was still polite but laughing inside and told him I'll think about it.

We only charge $100 here at the shop for a rear, but the front is a lot more involved if your doing it too.
Where are you located, maybe we can help you find a MINI shop that may be more in line.

Hmm... you did write "sway bars" If it's a quote for front and rear then that may not be that bad. Front's are a bit of a PIA

Save the money for more mods!

I knocked mine out in 1:20 from jacking the the car up to clean up and test drive, by my self. the install proses is very simple, the most difficult part was a few bolts that didn't want to let go.

Cars are just nuts and bolts.... take it apart and put it back.
this philosophy has gotten me through cam and tranny swaps on my truck, and motor swaps/ builds to my old honda.
there isn't much an average guy can't do with basic tools and some jack stands.

Yep, did mine by myself in less than 2hrs with a floor jack and 2 jackstands. Correct about doing the front, way more involved!
