Is an alignment necessary after replacing shocks?

Just replaced the stock shocks on my '02 Cooper with Koni FSDs. Do I need to have the front end aligned?

Not sure if this is really an answer, but...

I also just had a set of Koni FSD's installed just last week.
My mechanic said that it was recommended (he does not do alignments), but there was unlikely to be major changes from the install. I asked if it would be fine if I waited till spring (after the frost heaves disappear, and the potholes are fixed) and he said sure, that should be fine, since I had just had one done last summer. He did say that since no other components had been changed, except the KONI FSD's, I was unlikely to feel much of a change in alignment, and that is anything was thrown off kilter, it would likely be subtle. So in daily driving everything is fine, and the alignment was to prevent longer term problems like uneven tire-wear due to anything that many have been knocked off a tad during the install.
My car still seems to track straight, and I am loving the FSD's. They are a nice improvement.

The FSD's do lower the car by a small degree, so it may change the geometry up front, but probably not enough for you to need an alignment right away. If you installed camber plates along with the new shocks, then you should get an alignment shortly after.

+1

Just had my FSDs put in today by the aforementioned mechanic and have an alignment scheduled for Black Friday.
