Suspension recommendations for strut mount/control arm bushing
recommendations for strut mount/control arm bushing
I have a 2004 MCS (90K mi) and it needs strut mounts and control arm bushings according to my dealer. The left strut mount is apparently torn and the right strut mount is cracked. The estimate seems rather high based on parts and labor breakdown I received(no surprises there).
Can someone recommend replacement parts (and sources) as well as a realistic estimate of the labor(time) to do this work? I am not one to do the repairs myself so I know there is a cost here but I want it to be as reasonable as possible.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you're a track rat...
I'd go with Ireland Engineering fixed camber plates. These will increase negative camber a bit and give you better cornering and tire wear. For the control arm bushings I think the stock ones suck. Contact Way at Way Motor Works for some PowerFlex poly bushings. Because of how they work there and the loads and the like, you won't get more NVH, but will get better alignment control in hard bumps and under severe breaking. If you buy the bushings pre-mounted in carriers (a $50 adder, I think), you shouldn't be looking at more than about 3-4 hours of shop time to install. Then get an alignement. This starts to add up, but unless you only do freeway driving, longer tire life will pay this off in one or two sets of tires.

Call Pete at Greasy's Garage or contact them through their web site.
Most times he has Powerflex bushings right in stock, but if you prefer OEM as some do, MINI drops off replacement parts to the shop on a daily basis. Alignments are no problem as well.
He is worth the trip I guarantee it...

Definetly get the Powerflex control arm bushings. That will sold that problem.
As for the upper strut mount you can get the OEM ones, or if you want performance you can go with camber plates. Price varies on brand, and adjustability.
Feel free to call our shop if you have more questions.

Thank you all for your feedback and recommendations.
I contacted Pete at Greasy's Garage and will head over there for my repairs. I also signed up at MMC and hope to meet some of those fine folks at a local event in the near future.
I'll follow-up with a report when the MCS is all fixed up.

I got the prepressed powerflex bushings from www.autoxcooper.com and was very happy with the part and the support. I had some issues when installing and Dustin was on the phone or email with me very late at night (when most normal people are sleeping).
