Suspension New LCA bushing and other goodies.
New LCA bushing and other goodies.
It was time to do this job. 2005 MCS with 78K miles. I choose to lower the subframe. My 23 year old son helped.
Since I was going to lower the subframe I used Powerflex bushing pressed into replacement brackets from Way Motor Works. I also installed new OEM sway bar bushings. I wanted Powerflex but since the factory burned down I couldn't find any. My power steering fan was replaced also. I also installed the PSA kit from Mini Mania at the same time. Other things installed not related to LCA bushings were new OEM serpentine belt, front rotors and pads from EBC.
I did this work at the local base hoppy shop. I got there when the shop opened only to find a truck with no transmission on the only lift that I needed. After much grumbling I decided to do the job on jack stands in a regular bay. 30 Minutes later all parts and tools were layed out and ready to begin work. 6 hours later we were done. I think that the LCA job alone would take between 4 and 5 hours for someone who hasn't done it before. Now that I have, I think 3 to 4 hours. We plan to do this job on my sons '03 MCS w/ 127k miles) in Feb. The next day I had 4 new tires installed, balanced, and an alignment done.
The car feels like brand new again. The ride is some much better. I havent had a chance to Xcross but after some spirited on/off raps to the highway I love the feel of the car.
I was going to post a procedure with pictures for doing this job but it is too difficult to copy and paste the one I made from an original posting by k-huevo. His post was originally for installing a new sway bar. I modified it specifically for doing the LCA bushings. Email me if you would like a copy
