Suspension Coilover opinions
Andrew, so what coilover kit do you recommend?
I've been in this same boat a while too, and narrowed it down to BC and KW/TXWerks...I like the bargain of the BC (read: price to options ratio), but have the same concerns of longevity. I've heard nothing but good things about the KW/TXWerks and may just go w/ the V1's.
TXWerks, what makes your coilovers different from the standard KW's? Custom valving & spring rates?

Our V2's and V3's are NOT off-the-shelf from KW - we put a lot of time into them, along with KW, to get them where we wanted them. KW brought their support rig to the track and helped us rinse them out, too. NO other suspension company we talked to would provide that kind of support without investing big, BIG $. KW's lead engineer in the US rode around with Dr. Mike and they did quite a bit of data analysis and fine tuning to get them right. This is why our V2's and V3's cost a bit more than you'll see elsewhere - different valving + 60mm ID KW 'Race' springs. For track junkies and autocrossers that use their car on the street, our versions are hands down better than the off-the-shelf units for this application. They are not for everyone - if you're never going to the track, these aren't for you, in other words.
However, there is nothing wrong with off-the-shelf KW V2's for street drivers - we can get those, too, if you so choose. IMHO, off-the-shelf V3's are complete overkill for street applications.
So, for STREET only - V1's, off-the-shelf V2's
Dual Use Car (street + track) - our V2's (99.9% of people) or V3's (V3's only for those that understand double-adjustable dampers and how to tune them - this is the 0.1% crowd)
Track Only - call us
The TSW V2's are awesome. The longer I ride on them, the more I appreciate them. Initially I thought of going with stiffer springs, but the one's they've chosen are about as stiff as I think you can go and still use it comfortably as a street car--they've done well. You do want to watch the ride hieght; I had them too low for the street initially--raised them up, and they ride great.
And the car is great on the track, really couldn't be happier with this setup. Granted, it's a compromise, it's not a full ***** out track suspension, but it's significantly better than the JCW suspension.
The fronts are a breeze to raise and lower, can be done by hand, the rears a little tougher, need to use the supplied tool for it, but not bad--I lower for the track, this was the height my alignment/camber/toe was down (god only knows what this is going to do to my CV joints, I go pretty low, but I'm quicker lower), then raise back up at the end of the day for the ride home, when I change back to street tires. Perfect!

Our's are $1799 with custom valving and springs to match... Off-the-shelf V2 (with progressive front springs from the factory) prices vary, and run from $1650 and up based on what I have found online. So, for $150 more, you get our setup - the cost on the springs alone makes up more than that difference.
Cross coilovers are expensive but you can get them and not look back.. They aren't as expensive as buying a cheap set, not being satisfied, and having to buy another set.

txwerks, thanks for your response. What is the lowest you can go w/ the V1's, off-the-shelf V2's, or custom V2's w/o having the problems that some posters mentioned here w/ leakage and such? It's been mentioned 1", but I was hoping to go for a 1.5 - 2" drop to bascially close the wheel well gap. What turned me on to the KW's was that you could drop low, yet retain stock-like ride quality b/c of the full suspension travel.

You should end up with a minimum of a 1.5" drop if you set the perches at mid-level... This still provides for plenty of suspension travel. From our testing, 1.5 - 1.75" of drop from stock is best for handling and lap times. Any lower, and you suffer from lack of travel and the associated woes.
The dutch brand Cobra-suspension is manufactoring a brand new set for the R56.
The brand is known on the market... but there is a new company running it... they are producing quality stuff!!
Will do R50 etc too..
