Suspension New Megan Coilovers
Megan's come with Camber plates, which is a big plus over just running springs/struts. You also have dampening control over just running springs/struts. Most of all you can lower the car and have more control over its ride height running coilovers.
I am interested in lowering the car just a touch, not really any more drop than the TSW springs offer. At the same time my 2003 with 68k miles is probably ready for new struts, and I was at some point going to get some camber plates. For those reasons I was thinking of going the Megan racing coilover route but I have heard mixed reviews. Some saying the ride quality really suffers etc... Are the Megan racing coilovers a quality part that is going to last another 50k miles?
If you've been running them at stock height, and u have no leaks, your struts are fine at 68k.
I've heard the Megan's have relatively good ride quality on the soft settings. Maybe someone that has them can chime in?

New Struts - I dunno like $400?
Camber Plates - $300
Megan Coils are only $900 and they're adjustable. Just get those.
I've got about 20,000 miles on my Megan's.. Had H-Sport Springs and stock struts before. With the adj. ride they offer it is a better ride for sure, plus the H-Sports didn't drop the front of my cabrio to match the rear so the coilovers fixed that as well.. Would do it again!!!
i have had the BC Sport coilovers on my car for about 1 year.. from my research they are very similar.. here are some points i have
- i really like them! (love) i had stock shocks + h-sport springs before and this was a BIG improvement - my shocks were done and the ride was loud and harsh
- dampening adjustment makes them very daily driveable.. i had to go a few notches softer to make it girlfriend approved.. she gets that its a balance of comfort vs cornering speed (which she gets a kick out of!)
- Install was very straight forward and a nice, clean setup. i cut into my mini in 2 places
1. front suspension towers - i used a dremel to cut 4 notches out of the tower hole.. i touched it up with paint and looks decent, doesnt reduce the structural integrity with the added camber plates.. the cuts are about 1cm long and you can find pics on a bc sport coilover thread.. now i run -2.5deg of camber
2. top of rear suspension into body - this is a hole for the dampning adjustment extenders which lets you adjust from inside the trunk little cubby hole things. I just used my biggest drill bit (about 1.5cm wide) and ran through - some people use a big holesaw, but it works smaller too..
- lowering - these are not for slamming to the ground.. the lowest is similar to running my h-sport springs, so 1.5inches lower.. it gives a great look with the wheels tucked in, but you dont drive down the street scraping everything - i installed these for the performance mainly
that's it! i can't wait to drive home from work

Thanks for the informative post. If I were to lower my car I don't like the wheels tucked in look. I would probably lower it such that there is a small visible gap from the tire to the arch trim. Honestly I don't think the stock ride height looks bad. How long does the install take and does it require any special equipment? I have done brakes and wheel bearings, so not a lot of work myself, I assume its a job I could tackle.
Is it difficult to get each corners ride height the same? Also as far as dampening/stiffness adjustment how do you know what ratios to set between front and back for proper handling? One concern I have with adjustability is me screwing up the cars handling.
Oh, lastly, I have no problem drilling a hole for the rear dampener adjustment but I don't want to modify the front at all. I assume they will fit without modification but you just can't take advantage of all the camber adjustment available?

Adding 5mm spacers will improve front end grip...do it even if there is no clearance problem. Best offset for this car is between 38mm and 35mm - front...
I'm thinking about Megan coilovers for my new r53, too. Assuming they really can be installed without any cutting, of course. How do they adjust? Is it possible to adjust the compression without removing the wheels? The ride height would obviously require wheel removal. Thanks.

Still happy with the Megan Racing coilovers? How are they holding up? Has the ride quality changed? What settings did you end up with?
I am considering buying a set and am trying to get a feel for their overall performance.
I'm installing megans now, just did the rears ran the adjustment **** into the rear hatch. I had to fabricate 1/4" spacers for the lower shock mount. the strut body was rubbing the wheel hub????
Havent dont the fronts yet, any tips, tricks other than the standard strut install procedure?
Anyone have any advice on setting the dampening? What do you use for everyday, for track days, etc....?

It should be listed on their website. It's like 3 different levels, I think it was 1-9 track 10-21 sport and 22-32 soft. I'm just guessing from memory but I did see it on the site. Also I thought the rears came with the spacers???
My best time on Megans at LRP -before I told Megan that their bumpstops were too long - was 104.95. I was sliding throough turns on the bumpstops. Couldn't figure this out until I took one apart and really looked it over. When a solid bumpstop contacts the top of the damper the car slides instantaneously. Controllable, but not very enjoyable.
Keep an eye on the damping untis...they will over-heat and fail. Look for fluid. The replacement units are pretty inexpesive from memory.

I was thinking of getting TSW springs and Koni Yellows. Maybe this is a better bet? I'd like it a little lower (JeffC's car looks perfect.) but don't want to be scraping speed bumps. It is a daily driver, no track/autox, just spirited back road driving and urban warfare commuting.
Would this be a good fit for my purposes? Do I need control arms as well?

heres my '06 mcs with megans at Limerock. the adjustability is a huge benefit. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...P_NOV_2892.jpg
