Suspension Rear (interior) braces - any value?
I doesn't do Nothing!
Well, I went out and invested $18.61 and bought a rear-seat bar on eBay.
To my surprise, it's pretty well made. The brackets appear identical to those used on the Pilo bar that I saw once, and the bar itself is nicely-machined solid aluminum. It is reverse-threaded at one end like a turnbuckle, so you can tighten it in place by rotating the bar. Not at all bad for $18.61.
The news is: it doesn't do Nothing!
Now I'd be the last to tell you that this bar does anything noticeable as far as the suspension, but, as others have noted, it does have an effect on the noise in the rear half of the car - it reduces the plastic ticks and cricks behind you, and that seems to give a sense of solidity to the car when you hit bumps.
The most noticeable other sonic effect is that it reduced the throbbing that I get at idle from my urethane lower engine mount. It definitely changed the resonant nodes in the body at that frequency range.
As far as I'm concerned, it is worth $18.61 for the sense of improved build quality that comes with a quieter interior. Probably not worth spending a lot of money for a rear bar unless you like bling, but I like it for what it does, which is quiet the body somewhat and reduce interior noise.
