Yea kinda goofy that they sell them separately .

If this is the case, would you get the same protection by just reinforcing the bolt holes?

Or you could remove the bonnet liner like I did.

Has anyone thought of making the strut tower plates out of carbon fiber??

Some people do not want to go for the full strut tower brace for a variety of reasons but still would like some protection against the dredded mushroom. For those people we offer just the SRP's by themselves. We thought it was a good idea .

Solid carbon fiber? Hollow certainly wouldn't add any strength.

i pretty much saved $100.
got my srp's for about $100 shipped.

one thing i noticed about them was that they ride a tiny bit different when going over bumps. some bumps feel not as 'rough' feeling while other bumps are a little more 'rough'. hard to explain. but i go over bumps without worries.

For the type of motoring I do (normal driving; spirited twisties on occasion but no rallys or track) the SRPs were exactly what I was looking for. I never push the car to the point that I need to worry about front end flex, so the brace would have just been extra $$ on bling under the bonnet--not needed or wanted.

I love my m7 SRPs and now drive with a lot more confidence (worries are limited to the motor mounts )

That's what I did = wetted the hood liner. It worked great, the perfect contour.

I work in the aviation field, we have a shop that can build up layers of carbon fiber, I was thinking for the plate to be about 3/4 inch thick>

would 3/4 inch of CF be structurally comparable to the current SRP's? Just curious

That is my question, what would the ratio of CF be to Alum. for the area of the strut tower.

The goal isn't to prevent the force from acting on the top of the strut tower, it's just to make the force required to deform the metal higher than any force normally experienced in that area. A hard enough slam will still rip the sheet metal (with plate attached) right off the car. It'll just come off flatter than without the reinforcement plates

This is very well said and I may have to use this discription in the future. The dry wall explanation by Myzamboni was a good one as well. Thanks to both you guys.

Well, the question is moot, because Mini-Madness has announced strut-top reinforcemnent plates that should actually work, as they fit between the strut and the tower, instead of on the wrong side, on top of the tower.

Check them out at http://www.mini-madness.com/index.as...ROD&ProdID=334

camber plates also work very well and add camber adjustment to the front too.

And they wouldn't raise the car 4mm's

The madness plates don't seem to be much more surface area than the OEM top strut mounts. Is the idea that they will spread the force evenly across the weak strut tower

What Im seeing is that it is thickening the top of the tower, thus making it stronger with less chance of pushing up. Sounds like a decent option for those who do not want camber plates, of course depending upon the thickness and type of material they used. The old style M7 and others are junk when they are not used with something like camber plates of hopefully these.

"junk" I don't think that's really the word to use with products that have years and countless miles of use with more happy customers then unhappy.

I'm happy to see another product to address the issue and look forward to seeing it installed and the reports.
