15x6.5 or 16x7 for STX?

I've been reading up the tire sizes and offsets for the MCS and I feel like my head is going to explode w/ all the tire/wheel/lowering combinations posted. So excuse me if I'm asking a dumb question.

I have a brand new 05 MCS and am looking to jump straight into STX. I would like to get a set of Rota Subzero's and the choices are 15x6.5 +40 or 16x7 +40.

I'm trying to stick to a small budget so I've identified the Hankook RS2 205/50/15 or 225/45/16. I'm planning to lower the car on h-sports later, so I'm sure the 205/50/15 will fit w/o rubbing, but can't figure out if the 225/45/16 will work or not.

Any suggestions on the wheel offset or the tire sizes?

I would go with something a bit wider. How about the Kosei K1's, they have some on Ebay right now for $399.

Thats my exact street tire/wheel setup. I have the SSR Comp 16x7.5 and Hankook Z212's in 225/45/16 with no rubbing. Heck, gowest has 16x8's on his STX mini.

I think they are 42mm offset. I haven't lowered yet, but, all the STX guys either run 15x7.5 or 16x7.5's with no problems depending on the camber, if rubbing ever did happen to occur, you could always use a very small mm spacer like 5mm or less. Those 16x7.5 Kosei's on Ebay are 43mm offset which is perfect, its actually the same offset that Tirerack sells for our cars. gowest I think has a 40mm 16x8 lowered I think 1.5"-2 maybe? If you do a search, I'm sure you might find exact numbers on those.

My 16x8's are +42 and with the 215/45/16 Falkens, I had on them, I had only 2mm of clearance in front from the wheel lip to the strut and from the tire to the strut. The back has different issues, search my posts, but I'm lowered 2".

My main autocross wheel/tires are, 15x7.5, +43 with 205/50/15's.

OasisT, I was going to look for you in Peru this past weekend but never got around to it.

Thats cool, I was planning on doing the same, but, it always seems at the big events like Peru that there never is enough time.

Ditto for me on that one. It's very hectic when you get a last-minute co-driver, like I did on Fri night. Congrats on the strong win.

Thanks Jim,

I'll see you guys at nat's for sure, especially since they won't be sending cars as fast as every 10-11 seconds like they were on Sunday(at least for heat 3 when we were working). Its amazing how there was no time for anything, between every run, we were spraying the tires down pretty much the whole time, it looked like lake Michigan on our end by the time the heat was over!

Not to throw one more onto this thread but....

I'm looking at a set of 16x8's (rota slipstreams) with a +48 offset, but from the sounds of things they won't fit w/o spacers, option b are 16x7's with either +40 or +45 offsets on a 225/45/16, I'm leaning towards the +40's since they will give more clearance, but will I run into fender lip issues on a +40?

or am I an idiot and am thinking backwards on which direction +offset will take me :p

I might try some 15x7 slipstreams(I think they make that size) since you can get them for $369 on Ebay I think. Or, maybe 16x7's. Can't go wrong there.

Ideally, 15x7.5 SSR comps or 16x7.5 SSR comps, or maybe some 15x8 Keizers.

Craig Wilcox

But, if fundage is any issue, go with the 15x7 or 16x7 Rota's.

Yeah I saw the rota's on ebay as well, that's why I was leaning towards getting them I'm just a little confuesd on which direction to go in terms of offset I know if you go with a stock width wheel (16x6.5) you want about +45 offset, but with a wider wheel do you want about the same or a little less (hub closer to centerline of wheel) offset for wheel to suspension clerance? that's why I was leaning towards a +40 wheel but I'm open to sugestions
