Hit a bump, Glove box opens

Looks like I've worm something out. I use my glovebox every day (wallet, in & out). Now, when I'm driving on rough roads and hit a pot hole or bump, the glove box drops open....it's kinda funny, because it drops open in slo-mo. Anybody else have this problem?

You might be able to get a new latch assembly. I keep my wallet in my front pocket, I never understood how people could keep it in the back pocket; too uncomfortable. By the way, my wallet is empty cause I spend all my money on mods.

My 03 MC did that at about 15k. The dealer fixed it under warranty.

That used to happen with my old Oldsmobile, it bugged the hell out of me:mad: .......but they should fix that under warranty on your MINI:thumbsup:

Happened to me on my 03, but I was out of warranty by then. Had to replace the glove box at $200-something if memory serves, but got replaced with a locking one!

I have that happen too! Gotta get the car in while the warranty is still good...

My 03 did it must have been a problem with that year. Dealer fix it.

I have the same problem... on the driver's side too... the plastic covering below the steering wheel falls down into my lap at times. Seems like a cheap assembley process. Not very happy with it.

The glove box on my 2003 MCS started popping open on bumps at around 40,000. I live two hours from the nearest dealer so I fixed it myself. There is slight adjustment available at the latch catch (top part of the glove box, not on the glove box door). I had to remove the glove box to get at the screws but it is not difficult. I just took a look at my 2006 MCS and the screws can be accessed without removing the glove box. You might want to take a look to see if the screws can be easily accessed for adjustment. After adjustment, my glove box never popped open again.

My 03 did it within 1200 miles. Dealer adjusted, and eventually replaced the assembly. Maybe it was an 03 issue, my 06 is behaving.

Red

Ditto. I actually forgot that my 03 did it since new, 06 has been fine. I don't think it was resolved on my 03 before I got rid of it. How about getting the assembly out of a wrecked 04 or newer?

Wyldnative 07-13-2013 09:24 PM

Mine did it too and then the latch broke

Holy thread resurrection!

I have an '03 with a similar problem. It's an easy enough fix by just moving the striker as mentioned before. I have had this issue with multiple cars, and it's usually this easy.

I guess I didn't realize how long ago the last post was made. It's nice to get answers.
