Clutch/tranny/???

Tonight, as I was coming home, I pushed the clutch in to make a stop, at this point, the clutch did a weird thing, it was a sort of pop, but not audible, just a feel of a small pop. I shifted into first to go, and nothing... just engine revving. Same thing with all the gears including reverse. (This is in my 2003 Cooper, not my new S!) In fact, I can shift into all the gears without pushing the clutch in at all. It's not engaging at all.
Any idea what the problem could be? I can't get a tow until tomorrow morning, and my MINI is spending the night away from home in a secure place...
Also, is it possible that I could get MINI to fix this since I just passed 50000 or am I pretty much SOL? It was just in for a few unrelated warranty repairs about two weeks ago...

THanks!!

sounds like linkage gave way. Best of luck. My 03 has over 99,000 (way over but not to 100,000 quite yet) and I drive HARD and still have the original clutch.

Good Luck.

Earl

Sounds like the shifter cable popped off the transmission.

Are these easy issues to fix or?? I am somewhat mechanically inclined.
Thanks!

Did you find the problem and fix it?

Sounds more like a driveshaft failure to me.

If one of the linkages would have popped off the tranny, some of the gears should work. When i blew a halfshaft on my 05 Cooper, I could powershft with no clutch into all the gears.

norm03s,
I got your pm, thanks for the diagrams! The problem doesn't appear to be in the linkage... I'm having it towed to the dealership on Wednesday. A mechanic looked at it today and is sure the problem lies in the transmission. Will know more sometime on Wednesday hopefully.
