Will running a Helix 19% void my warranty???

Hi All -

I have been offered an opportunity to pick up a Helix 19% pulley. However I want to know if running a Helix 19% will void my warranty???

Any comments?

TIA,

Mark

Technically, the dealer should only be able to deny a warranty claim if they can show the pulley caused the problem. So, if you install the pulley, and the pulley comes loose and damages something, you're 100% out of luck. If you install the pulley and your head gasket starts leaking, you may be out of luck. If you install the pulley and your radio stops working, you should be fine.

I am aware of the concerns you listed. I am just more concerned of the cart blanc, "This car has been modified with performance parts and your warranty is no longer valid". I know what the position of American car manufactures. This is my first Mini and I am not clear on there warranty position. I figured that there is a lot of experience out there that has been through this aready. I just thought that I would get a gauge on what is "typical".

So please, bring on the comments.....

American or German - it doesn't matter. They're still bound by the Magnuson-Moss Act on cars they sell here in the States.

That being said, some people have found their dealers to be very mod-friendly, while others have found out the hard way that the M-M Act has no "teeth" to it when you're confronted with an unreasonable dealer/service rep.

So, a lot of it depends on your dealer, but I haven't heard of anybody being denied a warranty claim for an item that is in no way related to the modification (like the radio example I gave in my first post).

Now, if you throw the highest-overdrive pulley available onto your car, I'd be prepared to have any warranty claim denied that could possibly have been caused by overboost, overspinning the supercharger, or detonation in the combustion chamber - things like broken piston rings, blown seals/gaskets, or erosion of the piston tops.

I know what you are saying. What I am trying to avoid is this...See posting from Rich B.

All this said, I am going to call my dealer tomorrow and get there take on doing mods.

my shop is very acceptable to aftermarket parts. we have done a lot of warranty work that could had been denied due to the aftermarket parts on the cars, but we went ahead and fixed the cars.

so ask your local shop and see what they say about it, they may have no problem whatsoever...
