Free Mini Maintainence

One thing I remember being told was at Cinci Mini was that all Mini's had free maintainence until 40K miles. Am I correct?
So, what do you guys think of it? Also, if I recall right, they change the oil every 7K. If this is the case, are they using synthetic (becuase I've heard reports that Mobil 1 can easily withstand 10K, but these same reports do not recommend it because the oil filter is more limited in life (max 5K). With this is mind, are you guys opting to change your own oil? How about you guys that are leasing it- are you planning on taking this option and trying to get away with a 0 maintainence cost vehicle?

Actually, there is a lot more to the service than just an oil change; they go through a whole checklist of items. I don't have my manual in front of me, but I remember seeing the list and it's quite long.

The included maintenance is an oil change at 10 and a minor service " inspection 1" at 25 k miles. Inspection 1 is mostly an inspection and has very few actual service items,only air conditioner filter and cvt transmission fluid.
The free maintenance also include brake fluid change at 2 years and brake pads, rotors and wiper blades but if you need them up to 36,000 miles/3 years.
Ill post the entire maintenance schedule. The US cars comes with free maintenance for 3yr/36k miles

Mini Routine Service Schedule
(This is from the US manuals, other manuals may differ slightly.)
Mini Routine maintenance has some services based on the Dashboard Service Indicator and others based on Time and others based on Mileage.
Dashboard Indicated Maintenance
Service is dictated by computer (approximate mileage is indicated for reference)
Approx. mileage
10000 Oil change
25000 Inspection 1
40000 Oil Change
55000 Inspection 2
70000 Oil Change
and so on alternating inspection 1 and 2 with oil change
The details of inspection 1 and 2 are in your Service and Warranty Book
Inspection 1 includes CVT transmission fluid change and A/C filter (includes body rust inspection)
Inspection 2 includes Drive Belt replacement and Air filter replacement (includes body rust inspection)
Time
Every 1 year Oil/ Filter if not changed because of dashboard indicator (There are discrepancies in some editions of the owner/service manual regarding these intervals. The 1 year interval has been confimed by MINI)
Every 1 year Undercarriage cleaning /wash
Every 2 years body rust inspection (unless included in more recent Inspection 1 or 2)
Every 2 years brake fluid replacement
Every 4 years coolant replacement (There are discrepancies in some editions of the owner/service manual regarding these intervals. The 4 year interval has been confimed by MINI)
Time is based on DATE OF MANUFACTURE not DATE OF PURCHASE for brake fluid and coolant
Date of manufacture can be found on the drivers side door jam or under the bonnet on the driver's side:

100,000 miles Spark plugs and Oxygen sensor
