Engine Flush?

Until now I've always had an annual free oil change done on my 2003 S by the dealer. Now I'm ready to stop using the MINI oil and change to Amsoil. I ordered a bottle of engine flush from the Amsoil folks along with the oil, but I'm wondering if I really need to use it before making the brand switch or just forget about it and go ahead with a standard oil change. Using the flush requires draining a pint of oil, then running the flush for about twenty minutes before proceeding. Pros/Cons? Whadddyathink? Thanks for any thoughts you may have!

How many miles are on your MINI? How many oil changes were done in that time? What kind of driving did you do? Lots of stop & go or highway driving? If you will answer these questions it will be easier to give you an answer.

Forget the flush...

the car already has synthetic, so deposits will be down. Just drain, change the filter, fill er up, and go!

Matt

ps, also, there havent been a lot of reports (any?) about sludge being a problem in our motors....

Crashton- The car has 25,000 miles and has had the oil changed every October. It's driven in mostly suburban areas-usually not heavy stop and go driving. There have been a few track days and a couple of autocrosses, too.

Dr. Obnxs- Thanks for the input- an expert opinion was what I was hoping for!

From what you've described I seriously doubt you'd have engine sludge to clean out, especially with that low mileage. I agree with the good Dr. on this one. Don't bother with a flushing just change it & go motoring.

Yeah, don't worry about sludge in an engine that new. Just keep a good synthetic in there and you should have nothing to worry about.

I was about to order the amsoil engine flush, but found this thread thanks to the forum's new system of bringing up similar titles.

Anyway, my car has 45,000 miles, and oil was changed last at 40,000. Before that it was about 30000, 15000, 10000, and something like 6 or 8,000. It was done each time after the first with Mobil 1 full synthetic extended performance. The filter has been changed every 5k.

I have dropped the oil pan 2 times for various reasons and there was no sludge.

So I will not buy the flush, and I'll stick with Mobil 1.
