How to adjust headlights
How to adjust headlights
Does anyone know how to adust the headlights on the cooper/S? I have the Xeonon lights and I feel they are pointed too low. On curvy or hilly roads without street lights I feel like I can't see far enought ahead. The dealership admits they are set lower than most cars because the Xenons are so bright and other drivers sometimes think you have your brights on. I personally don't care. I'm getting older and can't see as well at night. What's the point of Xenon's if you point them at the ground 20 feet in front of the car?
How do I adjust them up?

Depends on the year. My '04 Xenon's were also set too low - I drove across country thinking they sucked!
For the <'05 there are adjustment screws on the bottom and side of the headlights. Note that a small turn makes a large adjustment. I started with a 1/4 turn, which was way too much. Ended up about 1/8th and now they're great. Essentially set up so that I see the trunk of the car in front of me instead of the ground just in front of me. The sharp cutoff makes them pretty easy to adjust.
On the '05+, there are apparently a couple of adjusting screws, but they are not clearly marked. In any case - turn one, make note of the adjustment, and see if it helps!

There are two 6mm allen screws on each headlight. If you were standing in the middle of your car facing your opened bonnet, the "inner" ones ( to the centre of the car) are the height adjustors whilst the "outer" ones are the left right adjustors. I won't touch the outer ones as they are a PITA to get correct!
i forgot how i did it (its been 3 yrs) but that was the first thing i did on the car. search this site and also www.mini2.com
i know i read the how to somewhere.

I have a '04 MCS, so I'll tell you how I do it on mine.
Let's assume (hehehe) the HIDs are inside a black box. The adjustment nut to raise or lower the light beam is on the backside of this box. It has two arrows, one points up and the other down. (sorry, but I don't remember what size the nut is)
Pop the bonnet and get into a position where you can see the backside of the box and adjust accordingly.
If you still can't find it, let me knw and I'll get you a pic.
Good luck.
