Advice needed: Grinding noises when idling...

Hello everyone,

I have an 03 MCS and I usually have my music on while driving, but a couple of days now that I haven't and I heard grinding noises coming from the driving side area. When I move the steering around...the noises went away, and then come back when i stop moving the steering wheel. If I hold the steering wheel in certain position....I can actually get the noises to go away, but as soon as I let go...the noises appear again.

I'm guessing that it could be something with the steering pump? Not sure if it's the supercharger.

Your input is appreciated.

Richie

Steve, this happens while idling at a stop...or park. The noise sounded like a supercharger whining, but as soon as I touch the steering wheel..moving it side to side..the noise come and go, and when i hold the steering wheel and turn it slightly and hold...the noise goes away. When let go of the steering wheel..the noise got louder.

All this is during idling...parking.

Sory about that, just spaced. Ok, the PS is electric. If the fan fails it can take the pump out ( usually does ). If you look under the car, behind the engine drivers side, there is a fan there ( that can fill with crud & jam ). Check the PS fluid & see what it looks like, that should be a good tell. If you still have free service, it would be replaced ( I've had 1 fan & pump ).
You should be able to hear & locate the noise from under the car.
Best of luck...
