What oil does the dealer use? (brand). I'm getting ready to do my first oil change and was thinking of using the AmsOil. I have heard good things but I might just use the Mobil1.

For me, every 5k seems to be good in all my cars. If I go over a bit I don't worry, and like Motoron said: Also spending a few hours on a Sat. afternoon to change fluids is relaxing for me, as well as a MINI bonding experiance

Used Amsoil in my 2 stroke Jetski....

Only used it in my Jetski do not think I would use it in my Mini...I say stay with either Mobile one, Redline or castroil FULL SYNTHETIC....Why would people spending 30-40k on a vehicle skimp on oil and FILTERS!

I even do 3-5000k (or 3-4 months) mi changes on my Honda Element. "The uglymobile" .Funny, Honda recommends regular 5w30...NOT synthetic..strange since I believe that synthetic will not break down as fast as regular oil in HOT conditions...I still use synthetic it the uglymobile too and treat it as I would treat the Mini (I JUST CLOSE MY EYES UNTIL I GET UNDER THE HOOD THOUGH)!

I am finished buying new cars every few years...worst investment you can make in your lifetime...I am guilty!

I have worked on cars for 20 years. I have disassembled quite a few engines over that time period. It is VERY obvious when you peek inside whether an engine has had its oil changed often enough. I change my oil in my MINI every 2000-2500 miles with Mobil 1. It's just cheap insurance, and I like working on my car anyway.

i use castrol syntec(that's what it reccomends on the oil cap). that's it. as for how often i change it.usually about 3-5k depending on how hard the car is being driven.in the cooler weather i seem to beat the living **** out of the car.
