Oil Consumption

My first post, Good day to all. I have a 2005 MCS that I bought in Oct 2005 and presently have about 14.5K miles. I noticed during the time before my first oil change, that the car used a quart of oil. The oil was changed at 9.5K miles (because the first year was up) and now 5K later it has used another quart. Is this normal. It's a daily driver... but not far and almost of the driving is city traffic.

Thank in advance for your feedback.

My 03 MCS does that too... However, it is not consistent (i.e., I did not have to add oil prior to each oil change). I mentioned it to the service people couple of times, and they said it was normal. Let's see what others think/say...

My wife's '05 MCSa used about half a quart in 10K miles - seems pretty normal from what I've seen with other cars.

While a quart in 5K miles is a bit of oil to consume, if your car was built on the loose side, or the rings didn't get a chance to fully seal (how did you drive the car during the break-in period?), the oil consumption is not bad enough to justify replacing the rings. It would seem that you need to keep an eye on the oil level each time you add gas.

Service Advisor Adam at Patrick MINI spent some time telling me that this kind of oil consumption is normal for the MINI.

I had to add half a quart during the break-in, and none since then. Now going on 11k miles.
