Air Conditioning At Start Up

Does the mini turn the AC off or kill the compressor when starting the car or

should I turn the **** to off before cranking? I do not have the auto AC.

I believe the compressor will not be engaged when you start the car even with the switch on. You can hear the compressor kick in a few seconds after it is started... I also have the manual system and tried this..
