Xenons going out, every now and then
Xenons going out, every now and then
My 03 MCS started to show up with some problems with its xenons
at times, it wont turn on, maybe one turn, but the other stays un-lit.. i usually get it going after 2-3 restarts, but its getting annoying
also, seems the tint of the light has changed... before its a clean white color, now at times show up with a yellow glow... is my xenons going out?

control module not always the case. I have a bunk wiring harness on the drivers side headlight. sometimes it wont come on, have to hop out of the car and reach under the headlight, grab the wiring harness and move it all around. That does the trick for me.

Mine was replaced under warranty, so I don't know how much the parts cost but they replaced both control units and the xenon bulb in the one that went out. But yeah, the one light would first flash a couple of times, then it would go out after a while, then it never came back

Mine has exhibited it a few times. The car is under warranty, so it should not be a problem to replace. I am sure my dealer will only replace the parts when they can repeat the failure. I'll see if I can provide them some times when I know it will act up.

Pre-'05's have reflector HID's while later models are the projector style. Projector's have a better cutoff that allows more light to get where it needs to be. Also, MINI's tend to have their headlights aimed a bit low compared to other cars so it might seem there's less light.
05' xenons not adjusting anymore?!
I'm a new member and I have an issue with my xenons.
My cooper is an 05' S with 10K on him. The problem is that when I turn the car on, I watch to see the headlights adjust to the new weight of the vehical, and since my accident (in which the headlights were not involved) I'll turn on the car and there's no movement down and then just a tiny movement up and that's it.
I'm planning on purchasing the bentley service manual, but I was wondering what could be the problem/solution?
Thanks for the help,
Spade

I have a 2003 Cooper S that is having a problem similar to what I read about here, the driver's side headlamp working intermittently. I noticed it generally only works when the lights have been on for a while. I discovered on my car, it's not the wiring harness it's the little plastic connector unit that connects to the back of the headlight and contains the contacts between the harness and the headlamp. On inspection, that connector has melted and corroded so the contacts do not always touch. My guess is that once the lights have been on for a while that connection heats up enough to make contact with the lamp contact.
