MCS Service Engine Soon light...less than 1 day old!

With less than 100 miles on the odometer, and after owning our '06 MCS for less than a day, the Service Engine Soon light has come on!!! Anyone have any experience with brand new Minis giving the SES?? Gas cap seems to be on firmly. We had just started the car and it was sitting in the garage when it came on (or stayed on rather).

Is this a bad omen??? HELP!!!

Weird..Do you live close to the dealer to have them take a look? If your in MD then I take it you went to Towson or Tate.

my 2004 MCS SES light has come on twice... no reason, just triggered. My service advisor mentioned there is something in the most recent software that causes the light to trigger randomly. As MDS said, take in to your dealer to have a look see... Hope this helps!

Going back to the shop.....

Called the dealer (Sterling) today and they can take it in tomorrow, but said it may be in for a few days. Not sure what that is about...but I have a feeling that the lovely little SES light will be visiting us again! Nevertheless...it's fun! Waited 4 years to buy it, and will enjoy fully, service lights and all!!!

Thanks for your notes!

Are they telling you the codes?

They should either let you know the code, or let you know there is no code. But this little light just doesn't come on for no reason...

Everyone with a modern car should have a code scanner. Otherwise service techs can just BS you, and you'll never know!

maybe it's nothing, maybe it's not.

Same thing happened to me. It something about the software upgrade. Nothing major.

Happended to mine w/ 15mi on the car.
One of the pins on the wiring harness was mis aligned.
Changed it and problem went away.
