Leaking Transmission Fluid
I have an 03 Mini Cooper CVT- 13,000 miles. Last month found red fluid drops on driveway- took for service was told transmission seal was allowing fluid to leak out. They replaced the seal. This week again noticed leaking- took in for service and was told same thing again. They don't know why it happened- but need to replace seal again- or if they find a bigger problem entire transmission. Anyone ever have this problem? They told me it is not common.

I had it happen before, around 10,000 miles ago. First the dealer said that it was overfilled at the factory and was "spilling" out. Hmm, but I thought that was sealed?
So then, they took the pan off and checked the gasket...it was crimped, and the pan edge was bent on the inside. They fixed it right, I guess, as I haven't had a problem since. I just had service inspection #1 this week, so I'll be watching to see if the problem reappears, since they changed the fluid.

Mine leaked and ended up being the warning sign to a cracked pump! Unfortunately I just topped it up and looked for drips and by the time I had the dealer look, it was out of warranty! So if you are still in warranty get it checked out really thoroughly by BMW so that they have a record of doing it should something go wrong later. If it is too late, I would push for a free replacement part due to this obviously being a weakness in the design. There may be a secret warranty on this... my dealer paid for the part, I paid for the labor.
I hope you get it worked out!
Cheers
