New Bie w/ a Qucik Question....

Hi All,

I guess this is my 1st post eventhough I have been reading the forum for a while. Eventhough I do not own a MINI I did become big fans of these cars through my girlfriend. She has a 2002 Cooper S w/ 20K miles.

Anyway, today I decided to change Minis oil in between regular service and I managed to unsrew a different bolt rather than the drain plug. It was a small 11mm bolt which is located directly bottom of the car very close to the drain plug? After I unscrewed it all the way a very long bolt came out instead of the oil???? I screwed it back in right away and I sure hope everything is OK. Afterwards I did find the drain plug and change the oil w/ Mobil 1..... My question is what is that long 11mm bolt?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I believe you removed one of the motor vibration damper bolts. You'd probably want to torque them down. 74ftlbs is what it calls for. If you don't have a TQ wrench, make sure its nice and tight.

So no worries, you'll be fine

It's an oil pan bolt that you removed and the torque is 23 ft-lb.

Oops huevo's right! I gave you the wrong tq spec too. eek sorry! 45Nm for the bolt I was thinking of, either way huevo's got the correct one

EDIT: I can't see straight sorry. Long week at school. I stand by my bracket bolt. If it's angled horizontally (bolt head points same direction as drain plug) then it's dampner bracket bolt. If the bolt head points straight down, then it's a oil pan bolt which I think is 7 or 8mm.

Thanks guys..... The bolt is facing the ground and I believe it is the oil pan bolt... I just wanted to make sure everything was ok.... Once again, thanks for your responses.
