Misfire/Plugs

I was coming home from SC yesterday (To VA). The traction controll light was on, but that's normal I get a overboost code often so I didn't pay it any mind. When I got on the freeway I was slamming through the gears, as I usually do, when I got to 5th I had a total loss of power. The Check engine light started blinking. I got of on the next exit and hooked up the code reader, misfire on cylinder 1. So I let the car sit and started it up, ran fine so I got on the highway and it started acting up again and went into limp mode. Checked the codes again and cylinder 3 and 1 were misfiring. So I thought maybe bad gas, but I was on 1/2 a tank, the first half was fine?? Anyway put in octane boost and got the rest of the way home without any problems, as long as I used cruise controll and didn't get in the throttle. Today after work I got on it and in 3rd gear I started to misfire again, so I pulled the Plugs and here is what you see. These are the Beru Ultra-X Platin UXF79P (Colder) with less than 7,000 miles. I just put the stock plugs back in but havn't done any testing yet...Any ideas?? Thanks -- Johan

Ok the stock plugs are in and everything is fine...don't know what that was all about. I think I'm just going to get a set of NGK's single ground one colder and call it a day...they have them at advanced auto for $7 a piece -- Johan

dang... #3 cracked

Maybe you got funky plugs? I'd call Beru and complain. Especially if there is no problem with other plugs...

if it happens again with the new plugs one thing to look at is the ignition coil. maybe you have a bad coil and cyls 1 and 3 share the same coil pack. but it looked like no. 3 plug was cracked. it seems like you have something else other than a coil going out. how much boost are you running maybe the cyl temps are too hot for those plugs.

Is it possible the plugs were over-torqued on installation? That can cause the ceramic to crack.

Actually, 1,4 and 2,3 share coils.

I had the same problem with my Denso's. Misfiring. Got home and the center electrode was gone. This happened one number one cylinder. I am running a Pilo coil and Nology Hotwires. Keep in mind that our ignition system is also called a waste spark. So two cylinder sparks fire but there is nothin g to burn in one of the cylinders.

Hope this helps and good luck!
