What is this?

I started getting an SES (P0455 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected [Gross Leak]) shortly after installing my pulley. I tried to blame my MTH upgrade, but that now looks unlikely.

Someone suggested I may have knocked something loose when installing the pulley. I looked under the bonnet this morning and saw the hose in the picture was disconnected. Anyone know what this is? Hopefully it is the source of the SES.

ECM controlled fuel tank vent valve connected to the intake. The SES light is for emissions so you most likely found your cause.

Since the problem has been solved, I guess it's Ok to hijack the thread a bit...
On the left side of the arrows, we can see a rusted spot. I've noticed the same thing on my car. It seems only superficial but I'm just wondering about the long term effects....that piece looks like it would be a pain to replace.

Yep, hijack away. I never noticed the spot til I took the picture Saturday. Amazing what a flash can bring out. I haven't a clue what causes it.
