K-Buss Problems?

My '02 MCS has now been in the shop for over 2 weeks with what the MINI techs claim is a short in the K-Buss which they can't seem to isolate. Problem first materialized as a non-functional cruise control and ultimately developed into a multi-idiot light failure (DSC & EML). In this mode the engine will not exceed 2000 rpm or 30 mph (downhill). Problem will correct itself after a lengthy cool down, but reappears within about 15 minutes of driving.

Anybody ever have similar problems or ideas as to true cause? I wonder what obligation MINI has to fix the car within a certain amount of time or if they can just wait another 8 months to tell me its out of warranty. Until then do they have an obligation to provide me with transportation?

Unofficial channels claim that the obsolescence timer is faulty causing the computer to timeout 8 months prior to the planned warranty expiration.

If it is a documented problem before the warranty runs out, and has not been fixed before said warranty running out, they are obligated by law to fix it. Just keep good documentation. It sounds like you've got a loose wire, or a wire sitting on a hot engine component.

I thought that was the case, but I would certainly like to get my car back before the warranty does run out in July of '06.
