It sounds like you need to conduct some test to determine if your clutch is on its way out. What are your indications so far?

The lesser expensive dealerships charge about $1,600 for the labor alone. Start looking for a good independant shop that has experience now!

When doing the clutch, it's very cost effective to also change the flywheel, and install a limited slip, if you don't already have one.

You have an indoor garage, a floor jack, 4 jack stands, an average set of hand tools, normal measure of common sense and a week or so to piddle around with it? (less than $400 in tools will get you by)

I'm changing mine for the second time right now (got a bad clutch). It's really not that hard if you have the ability to read, follow instructions and recognize when to stop and ask for help. I can attest that the folks on this forum are VERY helpful and will talk you through the tough spots. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...34&postcount=1

Seriously, it's not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. You'll save yourself a bunch on labor and learn to appreciate your car much more than you will by paying someone else to do it.

cheers,
Lloyd

I paid $1400 at NW MINI. I would have had it done at my normal shop for about half that, but the dealer said it sounded like the transmission was out and that I should tow it in, all covered by warranty. After they took it all apart they told me that it was the clutch, and that I had to pay for it all.
