Boot light on

My boot light won't go out. The boot is closed and locked. Where is the sensor located on the boot? The BMW service department here sucks as I would have to leave my Mini there and wait for them to look at it...and that could be days. Any help is appreciated.

Try the bonnet. They are the same light, and maybe it was open or ajar for some reason. Let me know if that doesn't work...

its built into the latch.

You will most likely have to replace the latch then. You can trace the problem to it with a test light. It is right in the middle of the boot, and you will have to remove the trim bit to gain access to it.

Hope that helps!

Just saw Rick's reply - sorry if it was redundant!

Is just the light in the boot on, but not the overhead light?

Both go off when I lock the car with the remote, even with the hatch open.

It is the "dummy" light on the speedo that is lit.

the bonnet switch can easily pop out, make sure it is securely fitted into the slot and popped in, it slips out if you slam the hood hard sometimes.

the boot switch is easy to get to. i dont think a new one would be expensive for either boot or bonnet.

Just took a short break from work to check the switch/locking mechanism. I took a screwdriver and adjusted the mechanism housing and also sprayed some WD40 on the lock....and presto.....the light went out. So I guess the mechanism had moved or slipped out of position or the contacts were dirty.

I appreciate everyone's assistance.

So add this little fix to your "fix it" notes.
