Wet seatbelt !!

I have a 05 MCS and for the second time in a row it has rained and my drivers side seat belt is soaking wet !! As, I pull it out it is full of water. Nice stain on my white shirt too.. And the carpet below is dry.. Windows were up for sure..

I do not have a sunroof.. Has anyone else had this leak? It will be going in to the dealer tommorrow...

Same with '03

I had an Indi Blue S, with the same problem, brought it in to San Francisco BMW,MINI, twice, and all to no avail, they couldn't figure it out ... No wetness on carpet only driver side seat belt was wet, and I mean soaking wet! I had a sun roof, and before we could get to the bottom of the problem I totaled the car trying to avoid hitting a deer... Missed the deer, bought another S a month later, '04, sunroof, more upgrades , and NO leaking roof.. Not the most economical solution, maybe somewhat comical, looking back.... at the solution to having it remedied... It was frustrating, and please, when you get it figured out I would appreciate your letting me know what it was...???
Good Luck, jake

What part of the belt is wet - only the part retracted into the car? If so - you have a leak in the roof.

This is a very old problem and have only known one person with the "wet seatbelt syndrome" on a very, very early build 2002 MC.

I am surprised to hear someone with a '05 complaint about this seemingly "extinct" issue

Go to www.mini2.com and do a search using keywords: "wet seatbelt".

Good luck.

Thanks for the link to Mini2, makes me feel better that others have had this issue.

My SA Frank, said he was over doing a plant tour and the issue came up. They thought they had gotten it resolved from 02. Lucky, me this was the first 05 MCS that he had seen with this problem.

Hopefully, it will be a simple fix..

I had the same issue with my 05. They said they resealed where the B-Pillar met the roof.

Nope, no more leaks.

The first time I took it in they couldn't find it. The second time, they had it in the wash bay until it leaked.

Check the black rain/roof trim piece running along the top of the car (number 10 here: http://realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/t/h/219.png)...

Are there instructions on your site for this part, Or do you know how to remove and replace the gutter?

Unfortunately we do not have a DIY for that (not enough interest). Run a quick search, I'm sure there are threads on here explaining how to replace it.

Oldest post to be updated?

Just discovered this problem in our 2004 MCS. Original owner with 178k miles. Car was in AZ for last 6 years so not much opportunities for severe downpours. Car is back East and was subjected to heavy rains last weekend when I discovered wet driver side seatbelt. Was hoping to keep car at least until it qualifies for Antique plates in my state(25 years). Got to get cracking before it rusts away.

Rained pretty hard yesterday and I get in my 06 r53 this morning, and the drivers seatbelt was soaking wet. Just the drivers seatbelt, not the floor or seat, not the passenger seatbelt either. I’m in LA area, so hard rains are rare, but this is an odd issue to have.

Funny, but I have experienced the same thing in my 2005 R53 SlickTop: drivers side seat belt wet, back seat carpet on both sides wet (not soaked). Door rubbers are good, all seals fine, even in a car wash. We had a bad storm yesterday here in Fla and saw this this morning; never happened before.
Eager to read what others have done to correct..

Funny that this thread was revived yesterday!
Same here on my 06 R53 w/ sunroof.

Driver's side belt is wet, only where it's retracted into. Washed the car many times this summer, never noticed anything!

Been chasing down new leaks as it finally started raining in Seattle after months of hot sun.

We've got a string of rainless days in the forecast, hopefully can nip this in the bud.
