New Found Power

OK, so you are all gonna think I am crazy!!

This morning on my way to work, about 12 miles into my 22 mile trip, my '05 MC (no mods) did something very strange.

The power increased dramatically. Seat of the pants, it felt like I was being shot out of a cannon. Throttle response was also much crisper. Same with the trip home this evening. Felt like someone flipped a switch, the difference is night and day. It is not like I had a problem before, the car always seemed plenty fast, but now, WOW!!! I have 9074 miles on the car.

Air conditioning is rarely on as I love to drive with the windows down, so that wasn't it.

At first I thought maybe something wasn't right before, and it fixed itself, however I had no problems at the Dragon keeping up and in some cases pulling away from a number of MCS (s).

There are a couple times during the drive, from a stoplight, I know exactly what speed I can get to before I have to brake for a turn. Today I could accel to at least 10 mph faster than ever before, and in one case almost 20mph faster.

Anyone else want to join me in the loony bin?

Steve

haha....sounds like a great mod. I want one

It is true that around 10,000 the car really seems to get into the groove of things and begins to really perform

Nope always Sunoco 93. Half tank right now, so unless I got a really good tank of gas, I don't think that's it.

Did you recently add that door vinyl. It is rumored that the NOS stickers can add 15 WHP. (no dyno proof yet)

Maybe you accidently dissengaged the lever between the seats? Perhaps cough syrup on an empty stomach. Did you scoot the seat foward allowing you to depress the pedals more? I found that my car is peppier with the rear seats folded down. Did you recently install racing stripes? It takes a while for the ECU to adjust to the change. If none of the above......Their coming to take you away ha ha he he ho ho to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time......

Benn using Sunoco 93 since new, with the exception of my trip to the Dragon, never once has the car felt like this, and I am halfway through this tank, and it took 13.5 gal at the last fillup. (Filled up Monday).

The change is too dramatic to be the gas. I used to have a modified Mustang that when I would race I would use 108 octane racing fuel instead of 89 that I would run normally, and even that was not as drastic as this.

My vote is outside air temp. You aren't too far north of me and I noticed a considerable drop in temp in the mornings & afternoons over the last two days.

Don't think so, yesterday's morning temp, was the same as Wednesdays, and yesterday afternoon's temp was hotter. This morning was 72 and very humid, 6 degrees warmer than yesterday and the car is still performing great.

Also the change happened halfway through my drive yesterday morning. I have had the car since February, and it has never felt like this, even on very cold days.

Before I posted I thought of all this stuff.

I think that it may be possible, that there is some sensor, possibly the MAF, that may not have been working correctly, but was not throwing a code, and something caused it to start working, or else something is going bad.

My buddy used to have an '89 Olds with the Quad4 engine, and every once in a while he had to knock dirt and build up off the MAF wire, and the car would perform much better.

Don't know, but I am stumpped and very happy at least until the part completely dies.

I've experienced this too, and I can guess on a few possibilities:

1.) Your seat position changed--it's now more forward than before.
Maybe you let someone in the back seat and the memory feature failed to put it exactly where it was previously--so now you are a notch closer, allowing you to hit the gas all the time.

2.) Instead of pulling your seat forwward you managed to use the lever (assuming you got sport seats) to lower your seat. You did this accidentally enough times that you are now sitting really close to the floor. This really makes you feel fast--the lower your seating position is!

3.) You discovered the MC powerband of 4000-5000rpms.

4.) You finally decided to dump some of those passengers!

5.) You discovered 2nd and 3rd gear (atleast these are the most fun gears on the Midlands MC's) I know gearing changed on Getrag models...

1.) Nope seat postion is marked, and I only let people in the back on the passenger side.

2.) Seats always all the way down

3.) The tach "Never" drops below 4K

4.) Never any passengers on the ride to work.

5.) Are there any other gears  Actually 4th gear pulls as strong as 3rd now.

Maybe someone did a stealth ECU install--like MTH or something without your knowledge, just to see if you'd notice???

With the recent increase in gas prices a new phenomenon has started. SUV's are now drafting cars to increase their gas mileage. Maybe this is what happened to you and it put you both in a nice air pocket which increased your speed. Look in your mirror the next time you feel a rush of power.

The best explination so far, however, I never let SUVs that close to me.
