Stupid ECU?

Hello again

If i turn off my MCC after the car has warmed up, then start it again while still warm, the car starts fine, then a few seconds later, tries to stall, then comes out of it. Shouldn't the ECU be smart enough to know not to do this?

while the AC is running, if i'm idling, the car continuously dips into the almost-stall range. like, once every 5 seconds. Is this normal? I think they're related. could my ECU be an old version?
brought it into Mini dealer, they said its fine, and "normal"

also, does anyone else notice a significant power drop with the AC on? It is significantly harder to start the car rolling! I have had to develop a second driving style with getting off the clutch for when the AC is on.

thanks!
eric

Its harder to drive with the AC on because the compressor for the AC is turning which puts a load on the engine. And yeah its gonna rob power because it takes HP to turn the compressor.

yeh, the ECU on this car is not very consistent.

And yes, the AC does pull quite a bit of amps to run, so that's normal
not just on MINI's but any car.

By "normal" I think they actually mean "common" - if you search around, you'll find loads of threads here from people complaining about problems like this. No matter how normal the dealer tells you it is, you shouldn't have to put up with it. Just because a problem is common, that doesn't make it acceptable. Reflashing your ECU with updated software (or even the same version) may help, but there are also risks associated with doing that. A reflash always changes the acceleration characteristics of the car temporarily, but sometimes negative changes become entrenched.

Unfortunately, it seems that BMW has no qualms about putting expensive technology into their cars before they've really got it right.

Yeah, i know the compressor draws a ton of power..

what about the contsant dipping into shuddering at idle? it happens about every 5sec if the air compressor is compressing.
