Yesterday after coming home in a rainstorm I left my parking lights on and the battery drained down. My son and I push started my mini and now the service engine light is on. Is this a problem? like leaving the gascap loose. Will it go off by itself or is a dealer trip necessary? any ideas? My Mini has 2700 miles on it.

 

The engine management sensors etc. need at least X amount of battery voltage to function properly.( 9.5-10 ? ) By push starting rather than jump starting, breifly your car was in clueless mode. It may well clear itself after a few restarts, or try disconecting the battery for about 10 min.

that is the key, 3 full cycles with no codes and the light will go off. If you pull codes it will still have a code stored.
