I would like a set of red ones.

Will these use the original clamps or will new ones come with the boots?

Are these formed as an oval or are they round?

Thanks ! This is a great idea

Stock clamps, work fine.

They are round. I didnt get a chance to get any pix today. I had to do more running around than I thought. I barely made it to pick them up.

Pix tomorow for sure. I will get a pic of them installed on a stock intercooler. If I have time in the morning I am going to install a set on my car with an alta intercooler.

They are very nice high quality boots. If you have ever sen the alta boots they are similar as far as looks but these are a little thicker and the inside material will seal better.

I am surprised only 2 people have requested Blue? I will have some blue ones made up as well. Maybe they will be ready this week as well.

Sounds intreaging...

I'll do red..... And a word about the stock clamps, they're much better than you think. A standard band clamp "holds" with force that's inversly proportional to the radius of curvature. In english, the tighter the bend, the higher the clamping force. Our ever so pain in the butt to seal elliptical shape would have very high clamping forces over the sharp ends, and almost none in the flat places.

The stock clamp actually bends as it clamps. This gives a force normal to the direction of the clamp, even where flat. In english, it squeezes and pulls!

So get rid of them at your own peril. Expecially for you high boost guys. The more that I think about em, the more cool I think they are.....

But they sure cost more than a band-clamp from home depot....

Matt

Detlman..

I have a few questions for you:

1. Do these use the existing mounting hardware to keep them on the IC?

2. Is there any air leakage due to the fact that there seems to be some buckling of the boot in the picture since it is being stretched over the current inlet?

I just want to clarify these things before making the purchase.

Chris

They are not buckled at all, but you do have to "convince" them to go on the alta intercooler. When both sides are on its straight and smooth.

They do use the stock clamps to seal them, actually work very well with the stock clamps.

GRS No Go...

Including the GRS IC?

Not sure if testing was done on this unit, but I got a phone call at work last Friday from the UK and it was Graham of GRS Motorsports. He was reading a thread here on NAM (this one or the Forge one in Peformance Drivetrain) where I mentioned that I would be using these boots on his IC.

He said that he made both the inlet and outlet ovals a bit larger to aid in creating a better seal with the factory boots. The guy followed-up with emails as well, including a phone call to my home Saturday afternoon (11pm UK time)! I told him that I would give it a try today, and I did...

The smaller outlet wasn't too difficult to slip-over, however the larger inlet needed a fair amount of muscle for sure. And without the boots being accordian-like, as the stockers, getting it all installed onto the snoots was even more of a challenge, especially when trying to make sure not to rip the material...

I finally got the the boots to slip-over the snoots, and in 100 degree weather, I yelled with excitement, thinking I was done. The mounting tabs were quite a ways off, and the boots, given their width wouldn't allow for lateral movement...

My digital camera is dead, so I had to use a crappy webcam...

The boots actually sit on the GRS IC weld seam, and on one side it extends over the machined portion of the snoot, sitting on top of the rough curved exterior (not good for a proper seal)...

For those with GRS units, per Graham's warning, and my experiences today, this current version of these boots is not a solution that I can recommend. I just wanted those of you with GRS IC's to know before proceeding, and to give detlman time to see if another version can be created...

In the meantime, do you have a return/refund policy? The GRS unit installed perfectly with the stock boots, and I'm going to do some data-logging now, in 100+ degree temps .

Im' currently holding off for the same reason.. Im having a slight fitment issue with the stockers even on the GTT IC. Had to make some slight mods to the clamps and some other pieces but have a solid seal now. .. I am sorry Detlman for not getting back to you sooner. The currently problem needed to be solved before i could get back and ordering them. My current issue is simular to that of the GRS a friend has here as well.. oh and i have solve the issue. but will hold off for now due to Tony's write up.

Question About Mounting New IC Boots

TonyB I appreciate your thorough review, since I have already placed an order for a pair of red ones I have a few questions regarding your comments.

What is the GRS intercooler that you refer to?
I have kept the stock IC and so these boots would be fitted to that configuration. Is there a problem with using these boots on the stock IC?

Thanks

The GRS IC can be found here:

http://store.webbmotorsports.com/ind...products_id=37

Being that my stock IC is now in a box, and not being used, I didn't try it with these boots. I'm guessing that there is no problem with the stock IC. The GRS IC is relatively new to the States as Randy Webb began importing and selling them just a few weeks back....
