Has anyone else had a broken valve spring? About a year or so ago with approximately 15,000 miles one broke on the MCS. I was driving along at about 45 mph and low rpm when the motor lost power and started to sound strange. I was a mile from home so I turned around and limped back and called the Mini dealer. We had a tow truck come and take it away. No apparent reason for the valve failure. Oh what a sorry sight it was seeing the Mini on the flatbed.

 

What was your outcome? I had the exact same problem last friday on my 6 day old mini at 1400 miles. i'm scared to death that i've gotten yet another lemon. my last car was totally a lemon. that's why i ordered a brand new car to prevent such problems. now if feel i have an old car with an engine defect. the dealership is fixing it, but i worry about cascading problems from this one.

 

They replaced the valve spring. Nothing else was found to be broken. I now have over 52,000 miles and the only other problem was a stuck boost valve a few months ago which they fixed under warrenty. So I am going to keep driving this Mini and hope it keeps on motoring.

 

what were your symtoms with the stuck "boost" valve? this is interesting ....

 

No boost and the engine stalled out as the pedal went down and the rpm went up. Had to drive home at low rpm and partial throttle. There is a thread on it. Happens to a few of them.
