At my MINI dealer, they are offering to extend out the scheduled maintenance to FOUR years from the standard 3 for a fee of $695.

Good deal or not??

The dealer is Crevier MINI in Southern California (www.creviermini.com)

The $695 extends the scheduled maintenance from 3/36 to 4/50. This is not to be confused with the warranty. The scheduled maintenance takes care of all oil changes, scheduled maintenance, brakes, etc...

That's a LOT of money for just scheduled maintenance! If anything major goes wrong, it'll be covered by warranty. But otherwise you're basically just paying $695 for one visit, aren't you???

Seems like it's way overpriced. I'd consider $300 maybe...

The extended warranty for the 4 yr/50K was only $395 or $495, I can not remember, and I was told the 45K checkup cost the same amount, so I bought it.
But then again my dealer (Big Country in Hartford, CT) did not markup the price either. The more I read what people have been charged, I feel lucky that I live near the dealer I do.

Extended warranty? The MINI comes with a 4 yr/50k warranty!

My dealer told me that a standard MINI (BMW) brake job costs $895 and usually is needed between 35K miles and 50K miles, so for the $695 extended maintenance, I was getting the brake job for a $200 discount.

I never heard of a brake job costing that much even if all four rotors were replaced. And probably under the extended maintenance the rotors aren't covered anyhow. I would really like to know if they are covered under the standard maintenance or are they considered wear and tear items. I will certainly be doing my own brake job when needed at that predicted cost.

I'm with you, spectrumm3. Plus in all of my manual trans cars, I've never worn out brakes before 70k miles. I just don't use much brake with a stick. And I've driven over 100k miles on a clutch - have yet to wear out a clutch in my lifetime but I don't do any life-shortening stunts with my clutches though.

There seems to be some confusion, per MINI printed materials, the Warranty (USA) is 4 yrs/50,000; free Scheduled Maint. is 3 yrs/36,000.(It is different in the UK, no free scheduled maint., but they can buy a 4 yr. program for about $150.) As to whether or not brake work is considered scheduled maint., my past experience with other programs is that it is not normally covered or needed as scheduled maint. If something breaks it would be warranty. To pay $395 up to $695 for one additional year of Scheduled Maint. does seem excessive.

Right dukesnatos. Brakes are NOT a SCHEDULED maintence so in all likely hood, they would NOT be included. Scheduled maint. is stuff that is scheduled to be done over the 3 yrs right from the beginning. Wearing out the brakes is wear and tear - not covered by anything.

What we in the UK get is what BMW call tlc (tender loving care!). for £100 it includes upto 5 years / 50,000 miles servicing. We get 3 years warranty and Mondial Assistance (like AAA cover) with the car

I've read through all the responses and i am still trying to figure out if it is worth purchasing the EXTENDED MAINTENANCE program (not extended warranty). I need to purchase it within the next few weeks as i am coming upon 36,000 miles soon. The dealership I deal with in Virginia is asking for $895 for an extra 15,000 miles (would make it 4yr/50,000). Is it worth it?

Has anone paid for Service after 36,000 miles? if so what was the cost? Has anyone been successful in purchasing it at a cheaper price from another dealer other then the one they deal with on a normal basis? Or been successful in haggling a lower price at the dealership they normaly deal with? Can anyone direct me to a lower cost Dealership?

$895.00 seems to be an execive figrue.

I'd apprciate any help on this subject.

thanks

Golden Child -- go search this topic (extended MAINTENANCE) on www.motoringfile.com Gabe has lots of info on it. I think you should pay about $400 for it -- AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY IT FROM A SPECIFIC DEALER. Shop around!

It is my understanding that the brakes are not covered under the standard maintenance but they are included if you get the extended maintenance.

NO WAY! I have 52k miles now and needed brakes for front AND back before 50k miles. I also needed rotors b/c I waited too long! Total cost WITH rotors and pads was around $700 I think (I did front and back seperately). Without rotors it would have been more like $300-400. At BEST, you'll overpay by a few hundred bucks but I thinkthat's HIGHLY unlikely. More likely, you'll probably lose $500-600 on the deal. Plus you're talking 4 years down the road. Better off keeping that money yourself then letting them gain interest off of it for 4 yrs. Almost always extended anything from your dealer is a big rip-off. Sometimes an extended warranty makes sense - but only when you buy it from an independent company after you purchase your car - NOT from the dealer. But I don't think extended service makes any kind of sense.

Brakes are covered under standard maintenance. It's just the odds of going through the pads within 36k miles is a bit slim. However, if you go through the pads really fast say 10-15k miles, they might claim that's excessive and from abuse.
