FRONT LIGHT WASHERS
Every time I wash my front screen glass on my S, the front lights get a spray too. This never happened when I had a Cooper. This is good but it always sprays the lights twice, once when the front screen is getting sprayed and then again a few seconds later. Does this happen to everyone? If so, why? Surely the one spray would do the job. It is annoying me to a point that I now turn my lights off before I wash the front screen.
I've noticed a 2nd spray on my Cooper, but you should not be getting a headlight wash everytime. It is supposed to clean the headlights (if they are on) the first time you pull the wash stalk and then every third time afterwards. Note: Each time you start the engine, it resets the cycle. I don't know if turning the lights on and off would also reset it, though.
yup..mine work just he same....i too think it is too much sometimes...besides..it tends to use alot fo fluid....wish they was a warning light for when the fluid gets low..that would be handy..since they dont want it running dry..could damage the pump.
I've heard about the "every third time" headlight wash, but I have to say that mine get sprayed EVERY time I wash the windshield and the headlights are on. This time of year (with the salt and muck on the roads), I'm washing the headlights about every 5 minutes...just like the windshield.
I could probably have this looked into by service, but haven't yet. Fortunately the headlight wash has its own tank and is not depleting the windshield washer fluid. The headlight wash, IMHO, is pretty pointless. Looks cool, makes noise, squirts fluid everwhere...but is this really benefitting anything? I think not.
BTW, why do they have a dipstick on the headlight wash tank but not the windshield tank???

lasersailor, welcome to MCO!
That's interesting info, and I hadn't heard it before. No such law here in the US (I don't think) but clearly BMW isn't building these cars just for us.

Thank you for your feedback.
I DO live in Europe and do have Xenons so that could explain why it happens every time, rather than every 3rd time. Thanks once again.

When you drive on salted roads, the headlight washers DO serve a purpose. The heat from the headlights evaporates the moisture from the road grime and coats your headlights while you drive. Without blowing it off once in a while, your headlights can dwindle down to nightlights pretty quickly.
I think I used mine one time in four months. We don't get much snow here in Sofla. And when it rains I have not had the pleasure driving my MINI in it because it never rains while I drive the MINI. I have this ray of sunshine in the day and moonlight in the night. Is this a GREAT CAR OR WHAT !!!!!!!!!
