Anybody know how to rewire the PS Fan...

...on an '02 so it isn't gonna take out the radiator fan when it blows the 5a fuse? Can I put in an inline fuse somewhere so it blows first? I just had the overheat problem and would like some piece of mind when I'm done putting in the new fan. Yes, I have the shield, but the fan itself failed and locked up.

I'd like to know too...

I was at the dealer today for something else and I asked the service advisor if the '05's have a cover over the p.s. fan and he said no. I then asked him if the circuit could be rewired so that the power steering fan fuse won't blow with the radiator fan fuse, and cause the overheating. Again he said no, and also that NOBODY has ever asked that question to him before. I found that difficult to believe, although I think that most MINI owners don't frequent this board every day, like I do. I plan on going to the next tech day there on May 14 and asking a tech the same questions. Wonder what he will say?

By the way, my car was assembled on 12/6/02, so I know I will be s.o.l. if that fuse ever blows. I still love this car though.

Hmm, I'm no MINI tech expert, but I know the '04s have a cover over the fan, and I SWEAR I've hear of a Tech Bulletin that allows for the seperation of the circuits - don't know that for a fact, though.

how to

here is a drawing of the circuit mods needed

hope this helps
basically you fit a relay in circuit with the ps fan
the fan is still controlled by the original cables just not powered from them
a new supply and fuse is installed for the ps fan
so it wont affect the rad fan if it blows
feel free to ask any questions
