Gas Mileage

HELLO MY FRIENDS!

I've been noticing since day one (now its 13k miles) that on average, my MCS's gas mileage is nothing like what they advertised. Its much lower. Anyone experiencing this as well?

I fully expected it to be lower than the advertisement. Why? Because the methodology for arriving at those figures is NOTHING like real world driving. The test standards are based on a dyno, and computer simulated conditions, and grandma-like driving.

I have 1500 miles, and as heavy a foot as possible. I get 22 right now.

During break-in when I was limiting myself to 1/2 throttle, I got 27 city, 33 highway. I have not done a road trip since, so I don't know how my highway is now that I can drive faster than 70-75 as I did during break-in. I would expect high 20's on the highway now.

My city driving includes WOT at almost every light, to 55-60 for about 20 miles a day. I hit about 30 lights a day, so it's pretty much like 30 drag races and fast crusing, getting 22/gal which isn't bad in my book. My GTP under the same conditions gets 14, so I'm happy

I did reset the computer the other day and drove very gingerly for a few miles, and it did peg the upper 20's - but I just can't drive like that - it's not why I bought the car!

I've noticed the sticker on some of the newer 05 MCS's they've changed the city mileage to 23 which is probably a little more realistic, anything over 13 to 18 sounds good to me....

I get anywhere from 22 - 27 mpg in town, depending if I'm driving like grandma or if I must show that civic with the ridiculous wing just how fast I can start. On cruise control going 90 miles to my dad's i get about 31mpg. I'm not too concerned. The price of premium gas is well worth the fun.

I drive 136 miles every day and check how many mpg's when I gas up and I am at about 29mpg. I get about 375 miles per tank. I gas up at AM-PM mini mart with 91 oct. A CAI is the only mod. Not to bad .

its a trade-off

For those of you who purchased MCS, you did it for the power!

I bought a standard Cooper, sure its only 115 (maybe 118 w/ K&N), but it'll still do 125MPH and I'm getting 400+ miles per tank.

I average 33.6mpg as proven: 4/13 filled up 12.8 gallons, 430 miles driven, Range 20 remaining. My OBC was 100% accurate.

When I push her hard a few times per week, economy drops to 33.1
But I've never had anything lower than 28mpg (and that was a 100mph drive to Pittsburgh Xmas morning - in 3 hours from DC)

My MINI is mainly a towncar.

ND winters are usually pretty brutal. I got about 24mph during the coldest.

Now that temps are moderating I'm getting 27mpg. BTW that's with only one reset...so I assume sometimes I'm going above 30 to affect the average. Thats almost all city. Needless to say, I'm very happy with that.

As summer approaches, and my wife and I do some highway travel, I look forward to the possibility of watching the average go to 30 or above.

ps...I also have found myself having to "show" the occ. Civic with a tail and neon that my little car can jump off the line.

A average 26mpg on my daily commute. It's more of cruising along about 50mph on back roads with the occasional 1/4 mile traffic back up at intersections. I'm thrilled with the combination of my mpg and what my MINI can do. I don't know of many other cars that can get that kind of gas mileage in the real world and still be a fun car to drive.

Talk about mpg sticker shock. My wifes truck was listed around 23mpg city and the best we have ever seen it is 16mpg.

Thanks for the interesting replies! Lets see..what have i learned...people that have an MCS like to gun it...a lot ahahah!

I dont drive hard but occasionally i will and i drive at least 230 miles of highway a week. To a tank, i'm only getting 260 or so miles....thats about 23 mpg. Not very good. I dont really think its my Dinan ecu...before it, i had ever worse mileage.

I have an 03 MC.I do 90% of my motoring on the highway, doing 70+MPH.I do 500+miles a week.In the city were I work, were most of the roads I go on are posted at 40MPH,I rarely get out of second gear.On the highway I always run up to cruising speed in 3rd,then just go straight to 5th,and cruise.I rarely shift below 4500RPM,6000+RPM is normal for me .I take most 40MPH off/on ramps at 60MPH,staying in third gear, till I have merged.I never bother dropping the clutch to show how quick the MINI is,I get rolling,go to WOT,then I show the civic ricers what it can do.
In the summer I average 35MPG,in the winter,32MPG.Coming up on 50K miles.
Gas is close to $4.00 U.S. a gallon for premium up here, and I don't much care.
$60 bucks a week,is not bad,the SUVs and 4x4 1/2 tons are paying 2-3 times that.

Wow! I got 300 miles per tank TWICE...in 69k miles...But like it's been said, I bought this car for performance and modded it for power. All I know is I have more power than my previous Mustangs and much more performance yet at around 24mpg, I get 7mpg more than I averaged with my Mustangs (I love the 2005 Mustangs though. Might have to add a GT convertible to my stable ).

Drive hard; Go FAR!

DC area driving last week; I495, I66, I95 (speeds 65-105 mph) plus 100 miles of Blue Ridge Parkway (aka Skyline Drive) twisties (35-45 mph) was able to go 425 distance on 12.25 fillup.

425/12.25 = 34.7 MPG !

'04 MC, K&N + Tornado FuelSaver, Mobil1 + ProLong & Zmax additives

i must be calculating wrong then because i thought i was getting a little over 40 mpg - i have only used the highest octane (mostly v-power shell) and my car is a cooper not a cooper-s so i guess that makes a difference

My MCSA is still on its first tank I hope to see mileage get steadily better. I know it won't be as good as the manual MCS but should still be pretty good.

Doesn't matter, the advertised fuel economy (especially city) is inflated and unrealistic for both cars.

My JCW MCS gets between 20 and 24 MPG daily driving, depending on the mood. Have not done the HWY drive yet. My "03" with 19%, alta intake, Borla and assorted suspension parts got 35 HWY.

I'm in the 27.5-29.5 range with about a 50/50 street/hwy split. But then again, MI is not well known for twisty roads so im kinda light on the throttle. Based on what little "spirited" driving I have done I'd probably be looking at 22 or so for street if I don't have to many lights interrupting me

I'm getting 29-32mpg with 99% city driving (I live 30 miles from work, and am in stop & go traffic non stop.)

Only mod is MTH.
