After reading about fault codes arising from a thread that started with some having aftermarket headers, I was curious what type of cat does the stock header have. I read that the MINI uses a OBDII cat. Is this correct? I have a mini mania header with cat and I am concerned that if I install this that the system will find fault with this. Anyone have any suggestions? What aftermarket headers have cats that will not make the MINI's system to find fault codes?

OBD II is a data access standard. On -Board Diagnostics. You can get lots of data from the car there, we MTHers do uploads and downloads via the OBD II port, and one can see system status (some smog tests just look to see if the status is all OK).

The cat is used to meet emissions standards. Pretty much any cat that does a good enough job should work, but some may have different warm up times. When I've seen posts with codes from headers, they are usually O2 sensor temp codes, and this may be more from the other mods, or if the header runs hotter than stock exhaust.

Some are going with the OBX header with the stock Mini cat. I think JLM has a racing cat on a Milltek header, you could pm him for more information. Someone else is running a stock cat for a chevy 350!

Do some more searching, and pm those that threw codes to see what they did to make it go away. I haven't added a header yet, so all this is theoretical to me!
