MFSW options for an '02

Hi folks,

I recently bought an '02 JCW MCS that had been hit in the front. I need to replace the airbag in the steering wheel and i was wondering if anyone knew which year MFSW's would fit the '02. I have seen a few '05 MFSW w/ airbags for sale and i wanted to make sure they would work. Thanks in advance!

The big question is did it come with the MFSW to begin with or are you just trying to put one in because you want it.

You can not just add a MFSW because it requires different wiring that was installed at the factory. If it had the MFSW to begin with, what you want is the 02 model 2-Spoke MFSW.

Didn't know about the wiring. is it just a harness i can purchase seperately and plug in or is it an entirely different wiring harness? my car came without the MFSW from the factory.

The MFSW wiring harness has to be installed at the factory when the MINI is being built. If the MINI did not have it installed, then you can not just install the MFSW now.

If you want to dismantle the MCS and gut the cars wiring harness installed now then install the other, I'm sure it could be done.

It's not a job I would take on and I do electronic wiring jobs daily.

I don't completely agree with that re-wiring assessment. There *is* a retrofit kit available to add MFSW to the two spoke steering wheel. Another slip ring must be added to the steering wheel.

See this HowTo on MINI2

That's exactly what I needed! Thanks! I'll call the local dealership and see if they will sell me the parts. Do you know of anyone who has done this already?
