Audio dies on hot days

I apologize if I've missed this somewhere, but I sold my 2008 Clubman S a few years ago to a family member. They're running into an issue with the audio system not delivering sound when the car gets hot. The display is working but no sound. It's intermittent, but seems to be reliant on temperature. I'm not sure what the option was called, but it was the top tier audio/nav system available at the time. Any ideas?

"Top tier" systems from factory had an added amplifier, located at the rear left behind the boot cover. In LCI systems (called "Harman Kardon") these are prone to early failure. Whether or not this also applies to stock amplifiers in non-LCI systems (called "Hifi System") I do not know.

The added stock amplifier is easily accessible once the loading sill cover and the left trunk trim are removed. I would leave the cover off on a hot day or two to see whether it has a positive effect. If so, I'd have a local electronics repair shop check it for any obvious temperature related issues (capacitors, heat transfer surfaces, etc.)

Probably a cold solder joint in the amplifier, if the warning chimes are lost along with the audio. Do you have access to a good scan tool that does BMW/Mini diagnostics?
