How to check pcv valve?
How to check pcv valve?
I have a 07 cooper S, n14 engine. How do I find out if my pcv valve is bad? I heard removing the dipstick and if oil spits out, the pcv is bad or if you remove the oil cap and there is alot of vacuum that could also mean the pcv is bad, but some vacuum is normal.
Is this correct?

Given that I'm new as drippy snot here, take this with a lump of salt:
BMW in this era used the PCV to pull a very tiny vacuum
(5 inches of WATER, which is like 0.2 psi) in the crankcase.
So if you get any pressure or any observable vacuum, the PCV valve's not
working . There should be oscillation, however, as crankcase pressures fly around
like crazy as air moves between the backsides of the pistons.
I have used a gauge meant to measure pressure in commercial HVAC to check the pressures,
and it really is 'just a tiny bit."
