Thought I'd post a follow up to the MAJOR CLUTCH PROBLEM! topic I posted. Picked up the MINI yesterday after 9 days at the dealer with a brand new gearbox and clutch assembly. They said the technical hotline told them to just replace the whole unit rather than fix. It would have been done on Friday but they forgot to order the specialMINI transmission fluid. The good news is that the car runs like new (which it still is) and I have a new clutch. Bad news is they damaged one of my 17"white wheels so I have to take it back so they can repair it. They scraped the paint off one of the spokes and didn't notice?????? At least they took responsibility. Always check the car before leaving the dealer. Here's hoping for trouble free motoring for a while. It sure is fun to drive.

Good to hear that you're being taken care of, particularly on the damaged wheel issue. I've read horror stories (from a variety of dealer brands) about damage to vehicles while they were being repaired/serviced and the dealership not taking responsibility for it.

Out of curiosity, do you know what makes the mini gear oil special?

No idea what make the trans. oil special or why BMW oil won't work but they couldn't find it anywhere so it had to be ordered. It's top secret stuff.

That's a bunch of BS the dealer was feedin you about the "special MINI gear oil". I have a friend who got the same run around with their BMW 3 series regarding the engine oil. Some dealers use Castrol Syntec, some use "special BMW engine oil".
