Extended service warranty
My dealer has already started trying to push the add on "service plans" and such. These are BS, of course (i used to sell cars); but the one thing they mentioned is the plan to extend the scheduled maintenance out to 4yr/50K miles from the regular 3/36. Has anyone done this? Does anyone know what the estimated cost for scheduled maintenance at 36-50K will be. Over $500?
Would be interesting to know what comes with that $350 extension compared to the price of just paying for scheduled service on an as needed basis.
I bought the extended service plan becasue it was a no brainer. For the next 4 years or 50,000 I get everything but tires covered. Breaks, drive belts even wiper blades and at 40,000 a $800 tune up covered.

Where did you get info on "$800 tune up"? Please advise,,,Also, my main reason for getting it was they hyped that the plan covers brakes and ROTORS for the 50,000 period,,I think that I will need new brakes before 50,000..hope..
yea, if there's an $800 'tune-up' at 40k and the out-to 50k extended service plan is only $350, then that's kinda easy to figure out
I'll chat up Motor City MINI and see what the deal is.

I got the extended warranty through Flow MINI in WInston-Salem, NC, but I was charged $599 for it!

One thing that I learned when buying a motorcycle was that ANY dealership could sell me the extended plan if it was a factory-backed plan, and that you could call around and negotiate for a better price.
I don't know if this applies in this case, but it's worth looking into ("Is this plan sold by just you? Or backed by the BMW?"
Hope this helps,
Jeff

I agree with what Jeff said. I was given the impression that I could buy my extended plan from the dealer I purchased my S (Brian Harris in LA) or I could *pay more* and buy it at the dealer in my home city of Dallas.

I also thought long and hard about this one, and decided not to go for it only because my mini is a second car that will not get a lot of daily use. This plan works great for folks that drive a lot because you will definately hit the 45-50k mark in the 4 years. If you don't drive much, then the plan is no good because the service interval is determined by mileage, but the plan is limited by years.
If my mini were my daily driver, I would say go for it, it will pay for itself almost 2 fold.
