Hey folks,

Pretty new here. Been around cars all my life and even had a classic Mini at one point. Thinking of a R56 as my next car. Wil be a daily driver, but may look at some minor mods and take it to local autocross and/or track days.

I've read up on the timing chain guide issues on the N14 (and to some extent N18) motors, but was wondering if there is anything else I need to be on the lookout for specific to these models (other than the typical checks when buying used cars)? Did a search here for another thread, but didn't find anything (if there is a thread with a buying guide and I missed it, can you link it).

Also what's the deal with fabric vs. leather? Was it an option on these models? I am not a huge fan of leather.

 

carbon buildup, thermostat, water pump, water cross pipe, oil filter housing gasket, and turbo oil feed line, just to name a few lol
