iPhone 10 and 2009 Mini technology

I have an 09 Clubman S with factory sound system. When I got the car several months ago the sound system was not powering up. I replaced it with another used OEM system and had it coded to the car. I have since sourced the original OEM Y pigtail to plug in an Apple phone. And I have an Apple adaptor for the 30 pin/lightening connection on my iPhone 10. I plug in the usb and aux cables and connect to the iPhone. It will charge, but when trying to access music on the phone via usb on the radio menu it says “usb error”, and nothing happens when selecting AUX. Am I doing this wrong or?? Does the radio need more coding for the USB?

Mine didn’t work with a 30pin/lightening connector. It did work with the OEM BMW Y cable lightening version (not the 30 pin one). However was still a little flaky, needed to have the music on and playing on the phone before plugging the cable in, then it usually worked

I got the belkin USB c / AUX cable. Then use aux on head unit, Pandora and Waze work just fine then. Only downfall on this one, it won’t keep my xs max pro charged, so after about 6 hrs I’m down to about 20%, if running just those 2 apps. Let’s not even talk about video conferencing 😉
if it’s just me in the car I have the phone hooked into the Bluetooth so I can make and take calls, hey Siri works pretty well for starting calls. If the wife or daughter is in car I try to use an AirPod in right ear leaving left ear free.

Roav makes a nice bluetooth FM transmitter that will fast charge your phone, play your music, and do phone calls. It's $25 and what I use. Also at Walmart.

Even with the USB and AUX Y cable plugged in I do not have an IPOD option. Should I see that even if the cable isn’t plugged in?

I don’t think so, I have an old iPod around here somewhere and a 6s, if I can find them and the 30 pin I’ll give it a shot, haven’t need the 30 pin for years so I might be sol there.

Make sure you did what I said in post 2 of this thread. Have your music switched on and playing, ie apple music, spotify, pandora whatever. As it is playing then plug it in. If that doesn't work, switch the car off, do the same have the music playing, plug it in then turn the car on. It is like the music has to be in the foreground of the phone, not just lurking in the background

That usually worked for me 90%. Occasionally wouldn't work though. When it did work it showed ipod. Then pressing that showed the current song playing. When in apple music I could also see playlists etc. When the "ipod" option appears the aux and usb icons disappear, so you will just have "tuner" "CD" and "ipod"

Thanks Robbo. Still no joy, no change following your instructions.

This radio head was a used replacement for the original one that died with that common “no power” issue. My Indy shop had to decode it so my phone would work with it. I’m wondering if the iPod function needs to be coded too. I’m booked for tomorrow to have them see...
