Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
I just bought 09 mini cooper s with 65K miles and It has check engine light on. I plugged in bluetooth OBD scanner and found out those codes below. The previous owner told me it heats up sometimes but while I was driving, i didn't notice it's overheating and temp was okay. (I checked coolant temp with obd tool since it doesn't show on dash) he said it would be water pump or thermostat. when i got home and pop the hood after I turned it off, I could hear some kind of water falling noise around bottom of coolant reservoir area which would be thermostat (i guess?) I believe P0300 - P0304 would be ignition coil and spark plugs but I am wondering what P173B would be.
When I start up the engine, car stalls first time and second try it starts up but idle bumps up to 2k and idle was not stable and low oil pressure light came on. smell from exhaust was like burning oil. What am i supposed to replace? Oil pressure sensor or engine is done?
For coolant: thermostat, water pipe and expansion tank.
For oil: put oil in.
For oil consumption: Maybe valve cover, turbo oil feed line, vacuum pump gasket. Maybe valve stem seals.
For codes: timing chain is about to explode.
For bad idle: maybe vanos vanos solenoid, or just the timing being off.
