R56 Water Pump Relaced New Problem

Hello, I'm brand new to the forum. My son has a 2011 Mini S with a turbo. I have never had a Mini before so not much experience with them. I changed the water pump this weekend by lowering and raising the motor. Everything went back together fine and refilled with coolant. Went to start it up and had smoke that smelled electrical fill the car and the car wont start. Had the battery checked and they say it is good. Any ideas?

welcome aboard friend.

was the battery connected when the work was performer? when you say the car wont start, does that mean it at least cranks? do you have an obd reader to check codes and/or if the ECU is responsive?
did you check the relays and fuses behind the passenger kick panel?

you may also find this sire useful newtis.info keep up posted.

Yes the battery was connected during the work process. It does not crank. I am trying to get my hands on an obd reader as we speak.

If it does not crank, that leads you to the starter. You could disconnect it and the battery and try to hot wire the starter.

sure...you can reach it from the bottom. there is on connector (signal wire) and one red wire (positive). disconnect the battery so not to back feed anything. remove those two wires. use a jumper cables or battery pack and connect the negative on the chassis. then use the red cable to touch the post between the starter and the solenoid. there will be some spark so safety glasses are recommended.
